Wombats, London

7 Dock Street, London E1 8LL, United Kingdom

Wombats, London is a great option in what can be an ordinarily expensive City to stay, leaving more money to spend on food, drinks and experiences whilst you’re there.

Wombats is a firm favourite when I’m traveling to the City and offers a prime location, easy access to East London (Shoreditch, Brick Lane, Truman Brewery and other areas). It is close to Tower Bridge, The Tower of London and within close reach of transportation links to other areas. It has developed over the last few years currently offering storage lockers, a cafe in the reception area and lots of work space downstairs by the kitchen or upstairs, also excellent spaces to meet people and have a conversation.

Details and Dorms

Wombats, London has several floors and the rooms are spacious, have modern clean bathrooms and feel safe. The staff are always helpful, engaging and friendly in my experience, which can make a world of difference to people when they’ve been traveling and can never be underestimated.

Even though Wombats is in the middle of built up London, it offers a roof terrace with yoga practice and other activities. There is a chill out room close to the top of the building offering incredible views over London.

Price range - Dependent on the season, the price can fluctuate, I’vegenerally paid aproximately £25 a night.

The rooms range from mixed, female and male only to private rooms and the beds have a curtain. There are spacious lockers in the rooms, opened with the keycard.

Breakfast - The breakfast always looks delicious but sadly I have never tried it, next time maybe.

Bathrooms - There are bathrooms inside the dorms which are spacious, modern and clean.

Outside space - There is an outside terrace next to the kitchen and a mini one from the cafe area, along with a roof terrace for yoga and great views. It is such an added bonus to have this in a central London hostel.

Age range - There is always a mix of ages, from students traveling for the first time, professionals to weekend explorers.

Atmosphere and amenities

Atmosphere - The atmosphere varies dependent on the time of day and week, there is a bar in the basement with different nights happening and music which can sometimes be loud. Personally, I have never had an issue, if I want to do some work I would sit near reception as it can be calmer and quieter, dependent on the time.

Amenities - There is a cafe, relaxing space, terrace on different levels, great views, kitchen with lots of appliances and large fridge, and locker rooms.

What I liked

  • The dorms have a curtain and clean, spacious bathrooms

  • The communal areas are a great place to spark up conversations

  • The roof terrace is a great place to see the views of London
